Teekay Fusion™
Teekay Fusion is a web-based application that links data systems together, so that Teekay can share maritime data with and provide better service to its customers. Voyage updates from Teekay automatically appear in customers' voyage monitoring systems.
Teekay Shipping and Navarik created the Teekay Fusion system in 2005 so that Teekay can directly share voyage information with its customers through the Internet.
Using established secure Internet data-exchange standards, the new software links some of Teekay's current IT systems to other applications run by Teekay's customers, and allows Teekay to publish voyage updates from oil tankers and other vessels directly into the voyage monitoring software their customers use. This linkage can improve reporting and help the companies better coordinate their business together.
Bringing separate worlds together
Navarik's software transmits the information Teekay wants to share automatically," says Navarik's president, Bill Dobie, "even though Teekay's systems and those of their customers are running on different computer platforms, and are usually considered 'separate worlds' in IT. Using the same data-exchange standards, Teekay will later be able to work with an even wider variety of technology platforms used by its customers and suppliers."
