StarPort™
StarPort is a customized web-based agency intranet and marine documentation system built by Navarik for Norway-based Star Shipping AS.
The system provides automated data exchange, bill of lading generation, EDI handling of shipper information, automated preparation of customs documents, and online viewing, approval, and management of manifests and bills of lading.
Star Shipping and Navarik began working together on the StarPort system in 2002, and have been continuously improving the system ever since. It is one of Navarik's more complex and comprehensive deployments.
StarPort allows any of Star's offices, or any authorized Star employee or partner anywhere in the world, secure access over the Internet to a centralized information storehouse. With it they can access automated data exchange, bill of lading generation, EDI handling of shipper information, automated preparation of customs documents, and online viewing, approval, and management of manifests and bills of lading.
In particular, it includes a real-time XML data interchange with Star's Dataloy voyage calculation software—that kind of data exchange allows Star to use specialized IT applications for operations, accounting, and document production, while running them all as a single, integrated system under StarPort.
